Johnsonville Chapel

Inside the Johnsonville chapel, seen through its glass doors

Our Johnsonville chapel is the bigger of the two. It seats 130, and the lounge next door holds another 120 standing approximately, so a large turnout is not a problem here.

It’s at 7 Johnsonville Road, a few minutes’ walk from the Johnsonville bus hub and the train station. If your family is spread across the northern suburbs, this is usually the easier one to get to.

Call (04) 385 0745 any time, day or night, and we’ll arrange a look around.

What’s in the chapel

  • Seating. 130 in the chapel. The main lounge next door is very large, and takes another 120 standing with the doors open.
  • Projection and sound. A large format projector rather than screens, so photographs and video are big enough to see clearly from the back row. Photographs, video and audio all run through one system. Speakers are built into the chapel and the lounge, with a lectern and microphone at the front for whoever is speaking.
  • Livestreaming. Three cameras, built in, at different angles. Family who can’t be there see the service properly. The link is private, and the recording is yours afterwards.
  • Rooms. Reception has its own entrance, separate from the chapel, so one family arriving and another leaving are never walking through each other. A very large lounge adjoins the chapel. There’s a catering kitchen for afterwards.
  • Getting in and around. Step-free access and ramps, and an accessible bathroom.
  • Pets. Welcome.

For families across the northern suburbs

We look after families in Johnsonville, Newlands, Khandallah, Churton Park and Tawa. If you’re at this end of the city, you don’t need to come into town, either for the service or for the arrangement meeting beforehand. Ring us and we’ll set a time to meet you here.

Burials and cremations still happen where they always have. Karori Cemetery, Akatarawa Cemetery, or Whenua Tapu. Our affiliation with Akatarawa gives us additional flexibility when arranging a cremation. We organise getting everyone where they need to be.

Have a look for yourself

Rooms are hard to judge from a photograph. Come and stand in it. We’ll show you the chapel and the lounge, and you’ll know quickly whether it’s the right size for your family.
