About Lychgate Funerals
Lychgate opened in Wellington in 1876.
This is our 150th year in the city.
Our funeral directors live and work in Wellington. Their local knowledge includes the city’s churches, halls and marae, as well as the crematoria at Karori, Akatarawa and Whenua Tapu. This means we can recommend suitable venues, coordinate the timing and take care of the practical details that can make a difficult week a little easier for your family.
You’ll find us at 306 Willis Street in the city, at 7 Johnsonville Road in the northern suburbs, and at 89 Karori Road by appointment. A funeral director answers the phone at any time, day or night, on (04) 385 0745.

Lychgate has two Wellington chapels. When a family chooses cremation, our relationship with Akatarawa Crematorium also gives us additional flexibility when coordinating the arrangements.
Lychgate are members of the Funeral Directors Association of New Zealand (FDANZ). For families, that gives extra peace of mind that our team works to recognised professional standards.
