Direct Cremation in Wellington

A direct cremation is a cremation without a funeral service.
No chapel, no gathering, no order of service. Everything else is the same as any other cremation we arrange.
Families choose it for all sorts of reasons. Some have already said what they wanted to say. Some are spread across the country and would rather gather properly later. Some never wanted a formal service in the first place, and neither did the person who died.
We will explain how direct cremation differs from a dignified cremation, including the opportunity for family to spend time together and say goodbye at our chapel.
Call us on (04) 385 0745, any time, and we’ll talk it through.
Two ways to do it
The main difference is the time and place for goodbye. Direct Cremation is simple and fully cared for. Dignified Cremation gives your family a private, unhurried moment together at our chapel before the cremation. The paperwork, permits and care are the same either way.
-
Direct Cremation
A private cremation, no service and no attendance. You can say goodbye at home before our team arrives, and the ashes come back to you sooner.
$4,250
-
Dignified Cremation
No service. Time to say goodbye at our Willis Street chapel, in your own time. Includes a pine casket.
$6,995
What’s included in both
Whichever of the two you choose, this is all covered:
You can see current pricing and inclusions on the pricing page. We will also explain any other choices that may suit your family and provide the full cost in writing before you decide.
Can we still say goodbye
Yes. Choosing a cremation without a service doesn’t mean going without a farewell.
With a Dignified Cremation, you spend time with the person who died at our Willis Street chapel. In your own time, with whoever you want there. No set slot, and nobody hurrying you out.
With a Direct Cremation, you say goodbye where they are now. At home, at the hospital, or at the rest home. That happens before our team arrives to bring them into our care.
Plenty of families hold something later instead. A gathering at home, a walk somewhere that mattered, a memorial service months on. There’s no time limit on it. We can help when you’re ready.

We will help you compare the options
You do not need to decide between the two options before you call. We will explain each one clearly and help you consider what feels right for your family.
